Carcase bulls fetch top money in Onslow Angus online sale

Overall 27 of the 32 bulls offered sold to a top of $22,000, with an average of $9519.

One of the heaviest bulls in the draft reached top-price at the first online only bull sale held by Barb and Doug Tozer’s Onslow Angus, Cootamundra, Tuesday, August 27.
Onslow Circle T220 was purchased by long-time supporter, EJ Merriman, Ravensworth, Yass for $22,000.
The 25-month-old bull was sired by Circle 8 R500, tipping the scales at 1005 kilograms, while recording a scrotal measurement of 43 centimetres.
He displayed a retail beef yield estimated breeding value of +1.2, placing him in the top 13 per cent, while also ranking in the top 24pc for eye muscle area with a figure of +8.7.

The Yass-based operation also secured the second top-priced bull, an 18-month-old bull at the back of the catalogue Onslow New Ground U67 for $20,000.
The Landfall New Ground R401 son weighed 762kg with a scrotal measurement of 44cm.
New purchasers to the stud Book Book Station, Book Book, were the volume buyers purchasing six bulls for an average of $7250.
Book Book Station livestock manager Mal Angel said the operation was impressed when seeing the bulls at the stud’s open day earlier in the month.
“We were pretty impressed with their temperament and growth,” he said.
“We’re very happy with them.”
He said the operation was currently in the transition from a Wagyu/Angus operation to pure Angus, joining 500 breeders, with the heifer progeny to be retained while the steers would be sold as weaners.
Another notable sale was the purchase of Onslow Circle T222, bought by Texas Angus, Warialda, for $14,000.
Also sired by Circle 8 R500, the 24-month-old bull recorded a weight of 908kg.
He displayed a rib fat EBV in the top 8pc with a figure of +2.6, while also recording a rump fat value of +2.0, placing him in the top 15pc and a carcase weight figure of +76, ranking him in the top 28pc.

Onslow Angus stud principal Doug Tozer said although the sale was very low-key, he was pleased with the results.

“I think people were very complimentary of with way the bulls were conditioned, penned and their ability to look at them, as well as the commercial attributes of the bulls,” he said.
